Go Play with Your Food!!!

 Who doesn't love playing with their food? Not me. Not many of the talented cookiers I know. We all collaborated on a group project we like to call, "Play with your Food."

Angela over at Oh Sugar, Events! put together this amazing project. Isn't it wonderful?!! She is wonderful! If you haven't yet, please please please hop on over to her blog to check out this creative project and mainly her naked operation guy. You won't be disappointed!

The point of the project was #1 to have fun, #2 choose a game, activity, toy etc that you can *play* with. This was my submission.  A mix and match flip book. It took alot more planning than I thought. But overall was sure was fun to do.

  I first sketched out the characters on paper, used my KopyKake to transfer those images onto the cookie. I then painted the cookies with food coloring.

Why did I do it that way you ask? Instead of the awesome coloring book method that Montreal Confections posted? Well, if I piped a line onto the dry white icing, there would be a bump and the book would be even thicker than it is! Also if I did the coloring book method, I didn't think I could get a nice "thick and thin" and "sketchy" line, that I like in my drawings. So I used edible marker. Note to self: edible marker is not truly permanent on cookies. However,  it is on children's hands.

I then used food coloring the same way you would watercolors. *Check out Arty McGoo's submission for real painting on cookies!!!

Milestone Birthday!

 My Grandfather lived until he was 91. He was my only living Grandfather that I grew up with. He was my main man (besides my Dad that is) for a long time. The last few years I spent with him were some of the hardest yet I am grateful I was there with him and wouldn't change it for the world.

That is why, when I was asked by Gretchen over at Three Little Monkeys Studio to create cookies for her Grandmother's 90th Surprise Birthday (how fun is that?!)... I so wanted to do this. She told me her Gram was a avid canner and planted Zinnias all over her property. This sounded so beautiful to me. I also grew up eating my Noni's canned goods and pulling carrots from the garden, which my Pop washed under the hose and we devoured them immediately.

90 years is definitely something to celebrate!!! Here's to more and more healthy, happy years to come and many more memories to make! Happy Birthday!!!

Owl Themed Baby Shower

Owl themed baby shower for my husband's cousin, she loves bright colors, so I went a little "neon" instead of the traditional pastels.

The owl cake...I'm pretty darn proud of that little owl...complete with eyelashes if you look closely.

Thomas the Train

After several failed gumpaste Thomas the Train attempts...I finally settled on buying a toy...sigh... My version of Thomas made him look MAD! At least the cookies turned out...of course my husband ate 1/2 of the first batch...LOL... sigh.... at least I had frozen cookie dough so I could whip up a batch quickly!

Horse Show Cookies

Cookies I made for a pitch in at a horse show. We've got horse heads, hat, barn, hay, ribbon, trophy, show saddle pad, boots and a snaffle bit.

Rose Cupcakes

These are a spin off of my cupcake bouquets. I decided how much cuter could these be with sugar cookie leaves and butterflies. I made these for a 10 y.o. birthday...white cake, crusting cream cheese frosting. She'll love them!

Summer Fun

Seriously, these were done for ME! I had all these ideas swimming around in my head and some new cutters that needed some serious use... The clouds are a flower cutter squeezed together, the Beach Umbrella is just an Umbrella, but I cut the handle off... and I love the yellow polka dot bikini!

Tomato Cookies

Martini Glasses

I have friends that have a stallion named "Crashed the Party" and his logo is the martini glass with olive...I took these to an open house they had... unfortunately EVERY SINGLE STEM was broken when I got there... I have learned since to take my cookies in a pizza box and THEN put them on a plate... anway... lesson learned

Graduation Cookies

I had my first graduation order... they wanted school colors AND girly stuff...for their "princess". I had a fun time with her name...all those LOOPS... They wanted pink, girly and sparkly... I decided to add a mini crown on her initial...I really like how it came out!
Her school colors were orange and black and they are the Apaches. Their indian looked mad, so I tried to portray that...he is a royal icing transfer...I made about 24 of them... and it was my first attempt at a transfer to a cookie...I don't think it came out too bad!

Barbie Cookies

Watermelon Cookies

Totally inspired by another blogger...and I'm forgetting who... and these ended up not being eaten...I had left over dough and left over icing and was in an experimental mood...

Easter Lamb Cake and Cookies

Love Wilton's Lamb Pan... this little lamb was soooo easy to decorate... although my arm was killing me after piping cream cheese stars for.ever! I did make sure I did a crumbcoat on the lamb first...it helped the stars to stick.

Colts - Football

My farrier requested a Colts Football cake for his wife...plus the matching cookies. I was a little nervous about the horse's heads on the cookies, but am pleased with how they turned out. This cake is my first attempt at anything 3-D...the helmet was originally cake, but was too heavy and kept falling off the back of the cake... it ended up being made of rice crispy treats...

Baby Shower Cookies

Baby Shower cookies and this is where I learned the Generic Shortening doesn't cut it... I couldn't figure out why I could see through my white! I have learned that only Crisco cuts the mustard!
